Does anyone have any ideas about how to keep rabbits out of our garden?

We've tried human hair, blood meal, and fox urine, as well as assorted commercial rabbit repellent products. They ate the marigolds we planted to keep them out, they dug under the chicken wire fence, and they make fun of our dog!

Any suggestions are welcome.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to keep rabbits out of our garden?
Sorry can't help, I'm more worried about how to keep Bugs Bunny out of my own garden.
Reply:This is the best answer!?!?!? Report It

Reply:well, it's better than the shotgun suggestions. Report It

Reply:only marginally Report It

Reply:I've used Liquid Fence and it seems to work very well with rabbits, and fairly well with deer. You need to apply it more often than the instructions say for it to really work well.

The Beggin Strips for the pooch with the wounded ego sounds like a good idea, too! :-)

I wonder where the marigold thing came from as well. My parents always said they kept bugs rather than bunnies away from other plants, but I'm not sure that's even true.
Reply:plant the fence abount a foot and a half deep around the garden.
Reply:FALLEN ANGEL is certainly vigorous in her answer, but she clearly didn't read the question. The original question said the rabbits eat their marigolds - we have the same problem. I've watched them sit and happily consume a marigold plant and then comeback for more.

I am curious about what the darn rabbits do to that poor dog though. I hope it's psyche isn't damaged too badly from the rabbits dissing it! :-)

I've had some luck hanging old CDs from posts in the garden - they move in the wind and seem to scare the rabbits away, to some extent anyway. I've also had some luck with scattering peeled garlic cloves around, but they have to be renewed fairly frequently. Scattering dog hair clippings around works pretty well, too, if you have a groomer who'll let you take some.

Sorry if my original answer (above) is too vigorous. Any offense given was purely unintentional, but I think the offended person's response was bit vigorous, too.
Reply:Try an owl decoy, but it'll keep the birds away, too. An inflatable plastic snake placed in the garden will work for a time.
Reply:Wascally wabbit! Always making fun of dogs. Can your dog not walk with his head up high anymore?
Reply:buy yourself a grey hound!an ex race dog1
Reply:12 GAUGE SHOTGUN!! THEY WILL LEARN REAL QUICK IF YOU LEAVE A DEAD BODY AROUND!!
Reply:Looks like its trap time, live or otherwise!
Reply:They make fun of the dog? LOL - that's too funny.

Did somebody say 'Rabbit Soup'!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:did you ever hunt rabbit well if they go under fence and eat your plants it is open season for the trapping will help but get rid of them with 20ga and the problem is done till a few more show i shoot out of my house then pick them up when i go out; if i want rabbits i"ll buy and cage them .air rifle will work if you live in town.
Reply:That poor dog, that's too funny. Have you thought about giving them bunnies a garden of their own to feast on?
Reply:Leave poisoned carrots lying around.

Reply:i don't know why people think that marigolds keep rabbits away, its one of their favorite foods! i know you said you tried lots of commercial products, did you try Liquid Fence? i've sold it for years and my customers swear by it.

Reply:Try moth balls
Reply:pepper sprinkled often around

Reply:Mean ol' bunnies, making fun of that poor dog!

Marigolds don't keep rabbits away for me either; if fact, I've watched the darn things eat them.

Alan's ideas have worked for me. I think davidosterberg1's ideas about the owl and/or snake decoy might help, too, and I'm going to try them.

Good Grief, FALLEN ANGEL, lighten up! All Alan said was you didn't read the question, and he must be right since the original question did mention that the rabbits ate his marigolds! (Now are you going to report me as well?)
